Nets Superfan Mr. Whammy to Attend 2026 NBA Draft Lottery

Brooklyn Nets superfan "Mr. Whammy" will attend the 2026 NBA Draft Lottery, bringing his decades-long tradition of willing his team to lottery luck to one of the most consequential drawings in franchise history. The Nets hold multiple first-round picks and have the best odds at the number one selection.

Mr. Whammy, whose real name is Alan Lefkowitz, has been a courtside fixture at Nets games since the 1980s, famous for his ritual of yelling "WHAMMY!" during opposing team free throws. His attendance at the lottery has become something of a good-luck charm — the Nets moved up in the lottery order in three of the four previous years he attended.

The stakes this year are enormous. The 2026 draft class is considered one of the deepest in recent memory, with multiple franchise-caliber prospects at the top. For a Nets franchise still rebuilding from the Kevin Durant-Kyrie Irving era, landing the first overall pick could accelerate their timeline by two to three years.

The NBA Draft Lottery will be held in Chicago, with representatives from all 14 lottery teams in attendance. The Nets have a 14% chance at the first pick, tied for the best odds with two other teams.

What This Means For You: If you're a Nets fan, this is the most important lottery since the team moved to Brooklyn. Mr. Whammy's presence is fun, but the math matters more: even with the best odds, there's an 86% chance the Nets don't get the first pick. Manage expectations, but dream big.
